Drawing contest
PARADISO explores how the full benefits and potential of the Internet can be enjoyed by tomorrow’s societies, in order to contribute to a better world. It is important that today’s children, who will be the main users of the Internet of the future, should be able to make their voices heard.
They have been able to do exactly that through a drawing contest that PARADISO has launched in April 2011 inviting young people to draw or paint how they see the Internet affecting their lives in the future. The contest was open to primary/elementary schools from Europe and other regions of the world. Teachers were invited to play a leading role in the contest, facilitating collaborative working so that one entry per class could be sent. You can access, through the following links, to a flyer introducing the objectives and rules of the drawing contest in different languages: English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
The contest has been a success: classes from 16 countries from all around the world have sent a total of 79 drawings. These figures were a very good surprise for the organizers. But beyond figures, they have been truly surprised by the creativity, not only from an artistic or emotional viewpoint, but also and more surprisingly from the viewpoint of innovative applications. There are in these drawings some ideas that will probably be considered with interest by research laboratories specialized in the Internet domain!
The award ceremony was organized at the European Commission in Brussels on September 7, 2011 (see pictures in the Photo Gallery of the Resources section of this web site). On this occasion, it was announced, in the presence of children having participated in the contest (and of their parents and teachers), that the organizers were very satisfied with the success of the contest, that they warmly thanked all children and teachers having participated, and that they had found it impossible to award only some submitted drawings, which means excluding others.
Therefore it had been decided that all entries would be awarded and that all participating classes would receive a printed catalogue of all submitted drawings (available here as a pdf file) as a modest expression of the most sincere gratitude of the organizers.
All drawings have been displayed in the form of posters at the entrance of the conference organized by PARADISO at the European Commission in Brussels from September 7 to 9, 2011 on the theme “Internet and societies: new innovation paths”. They are also reproduced below. You will not regret taking some time to discover them.

This is how it works: you have to find a webpage you would like to enter. Add its address into WE GO, choose pictures or video. After waiting for a while, you will be shortened and eligible to enter your screen. In the future, there could be cooking on the Internet. If we are going somewhere, we can just type something on the webpage. When we arrive, there is a delicious food for everyone. If we are at home and we need some potatoes peeled, we can just put them in a machine connected to a computer, write appropriate command and all is done.I would be happy if I could have a www.home.com page on my computer. It would work like this: somebody goes on holiday and leaves his home untidy. He would type what should be done on the page, for example do the washing up. Then a robot would go and do the washing up. |
